Tacit is built so that the private thing, your screen, stays with you. This page describes exactly what happens when you use it, in plain terms and with nothing left out.

Capture is press-triggered only

Tacit reads your screen only at the moment you press the hotkey. It does not watch, record, or capture anything in the background, and there is no continuous or scheduled capture of any kind. Between presses, Tacit does nothing with your screen.

What a request contains

When you press the hotkey, Tacit sends a single request to the AI provider so it can write the words you asked for. By default that request carries the visible text of your active window — what you're replying to, and anything you had selected — as text, not pixels. Only when a window has no readable text does Tacit attach a screenshot of it, so the request still has context to work with; it is used for that one request and never stored. The provider processes the request to produce your words and does not use API data for training under its terms; we never see or store it. When the words come back, the action is finished.

Nothing is stored on our servers

We do not keep a copy of your screen, the text you write, or the content of your requests. There is no server-side history of your activity, because we do not operate a content database for it. There is nothing on our side to browse, sell, or lose.

What stays on your device, and wipe controls

What Tacit keeps on your device is your settings and your history of what it wrote, stored locally on your Mac. Tacit does not keep copies of your screen; if you enable Developer Mode for diagnostics, those captures are encrypted at rest with AES-256 and the key never leaves your macOS Keychain. You can clear your data at any time from within the app, and removing the app removes it with you.

Anonymous, content-free usage counters

To keep the product working we collect a small amount of anonymous, content-free telemetry: event names and numbers only, for example, that an action ran, or that an error occurred. These counters never contain your screen, your text, or the content of any request. They are hosted in the EU. That is the full extent of what we measure, and there is nothing else.

Billing partner

Payments are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record. To manage your subscription, Paddle receives your identity and payment details, your name, email, and billing information. Paddle does not receive, and we do not send them, any of your screen content or the text Tacit writes.

Data requests and contact

For any question about your data, access, correction, or deletion, write to [email protected] and we will help. Because we hold no server-side content, most requests concern your account and billing, which we can address directly or through Paddle.
